What They’re Saying: Working Parents, Union Leaders, Local Elected Officials Endorse President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal

As President Biden and a bipartisan group of senators continue negotiations on the Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal that Democrats secured last week, Americans across the country are speaking out in support of the package that will grow the economy, create good jobs, enhance our competitiveness, and make our economy more sustainable, resilient, and just.

The American people know this will be a game-changer for their lives and our economy, which is why people across the country — from labor leaders to working parents to local elected officials and more — are giving their ringing endorsement:

Union leaders: “Thankfully, President Biden is bringing both sides of the aisle to the table to make historic investments in Georgia jobs, transportation, and connectivity. We are urging you to put aside Washington partisanship, support President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal, and make critical investments in Georgia’s infrastructure.” — Atlanta North Georgia Labor Council, the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists and Amalgamated Transit Union Local 732

Working parents: But Campbell resident Peter Davison is hoping that the bipartisan infrastructure bill will bring safe, clean water back to his home. “To be able to do it again, to drink water out of the tap, to drink water out of the hose, to know all of my neighbors in my community have clean water again, would mean a lot, ” Davison said. — Peter Davison, Campbell, Wisconsin father

State Party Chairs: When President Biden took office last January, bipartisanship seemed impossible. The Capitol had just been sacked by a mob of pro-Trump rioters bent on stopping the peaceful transfer of power. However, thanks to Biden’s commitment to bipartisan leadership and the patience and advocacy of Democrats, they managed to negotiate the framework of an incredible infrastructure package with Senate Republicans that will make transformative investments all across our nation. — Minnesota DFL Chair Ken Martin

Local elected officials: “Again, this bill is good for the entire country, particularly it’s the largest investment in public transportation in the country’s history,” said Mayor Paine. “It is the single largest expansion of Amtrak funding in the history of Amtrak as an organization.” — Superior, Wisconsin Mayor Jim Paine

Editorial boards: “For a politician, infrastructure might be about compromise and consensus. For Virginians, it’s about quality of life — everyday necessities that are falling far too short. Elected leaders have to stop dilly-dallying and start taking action.” — Richmond Times-Dispatch editorial board
