White House Boasts That Trump Ended COVID-19 As It Surges Faster Than Ever Before
October 28, 2020
Yesterday, the White House claimed that Trump ended the pandemic, which couldn’t be further from the truth. In reality, the coronavirus is surging across the country at the fastest rate since the pandemic began. Instead of taking action to contain its spread, Trump continues to pretend it’s not happening as he puts more Americans at risk.
The White House boasted yesterday that the Trump administration ended the pandemic — that couldn’t be further from the truth.
The Daily Beast: “The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy claimed ‘ending the COVID-19 pandemic’ and ‘understanding our planet’ as two of the Trump administration’s first term accomplishments in a statement released Tuesday.”
New York Times: “U.S. reports more than 500,000 cases in a week, a record, as the Trump administration says it ended the pandemic.”
The coronavirus is spreading at the fastest rate since the pandemic began and new cases are rising in almost every state.
NBC News: “Covid-19 infections are spreading across the United States at the fastest rate since the start of the pandemic, the latest NBC News figures showed Tuesday.”
BuzzFeed News: “What’s more, unlike the spikes in the US in the spring and summer, which hit hardest in the Northeast and the Sun Belt, respectively, the current surge is happening nationwide: COVID-19 cases are currently rising in almost every state.”
Trump continues to hold crowded rallies and downplay the coronavirus in states that just set new records in cases, hospitalizations, and deaths.
CNN: “President Donald Trump’s final sprint to shore up states he won four years ago led him Tuesday into the epicenter of America’s quickening viral surge in Wisconsin, as the state’s record single day spikes in Covid-19 cases and deaths crystalized his administration’s failures that could end his political career.”
CNBC: “Health care workers in Michigan criticize Trump’s rally amid record Covid cases”
3News Now: “Nebraska health officials are reporting the highest number of COVID-19 hospitalizations since the start of the pandemic.
Trump is closing his campaign by trying to pretend that the pandemic isn’t happening as he puts more American lives at risk, including his supporters.
Washington Post: “At this point, nearly 70,000 people in the United States are testing positive for the novel coronavirus every day. More than 800 people are dying. This is, in short, one of the most dangerous times for the country over the course of the year’s pandemic. And, increasingly, President Trump is hinging his campaign on his supporters ignoring the swelling crisis.… Trump’s reelection bid also hinges, though, on having his supporters ignore the crisis quite literally. His campaign is centralized on large outdoor events, populated by fans who often ignore mandates to wear masks and invariably ignore social distancing concerns.”
Omaha World-Herald: “Hundreds of people who attended President Donald Trump’s Eppley Airfield rally Tuesday evening in Omaha spent up to three hours in freezing temperatures waiting for buses to take them back to their cars. Several people who were waiting required medical attention, based on reporting at the scene and local emergency scanner traffic.”
