Why Won’t Ron DeSantis Comment on Overturning Roe?

For a governor who has made his opinion clear on everything under the sun, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has refused to substantively address last week’s draft Supreme Court decision overturning Roe. While he might choose to be silent now, we already know he has an extreme anti-choice record.

Ron DeSantis has led an anti-abortion crusade and signed into law one of the most restrictive abortion bills in the country – a 15-week ban with no exceptions for rape, incest, or human trafficking.

Across the country, Republican governors and legislatures are championing legislation to criminalize abortion, throw doctors in jail, and limit birth control:

PolitiFact: “Do Republicans want to throw doctors who break abortion laws in jail? Their plans say yes”

Politico: “Abortion bans set to take effect if Roe v. Wade is overturned could mean lengthy prison sentences for people who have an abortion, the physicians who perform them or those who help people access the procedure.”
