🚨 Trump on Signing a National Abortion Ban: “We’ll Get it Done”
April 28, 2023
When pressed about whether he would sign Lindsey Graham’s nationwide abortion ban into law, Donald Trump said “we’re gonna get it done” — while BRAGGING about the essential role he played in appointing the justices who voted to overturn Roe v. Wade and paving the way for extreme abortion bans across the country. But this comes as no surprise — Trump already promised to sign a national abortion ban the last time he was in office.
After he was asked whether he’d sign a national abortion ban if it came to his desk, Trump committed to “get it done.”
Adam Sexton, WMUR: “If you’re president again in 2025 and Senator Graham’s 15-week abortion ban lands on your desk, are you gonna sign it?”
Donald Trump: “Well, we’re gonna look at it. We’re looking at a lot of different options. We got it back to the states. We did the Roe v. Wade thing, which we’ve been trying to get it done for 50 years. I got it done. I appointed incredible justices and judges all over — 300 federal judges and three justices. And I was able to do things that nobody else was able to do, and we’ll get something done where everyone is going to be very satisfied.
Sexton: “On the national level? A national law?”
Trump: “I think we’ll get it done on some level, it could be on different levels, but we’re gonna get it done. I know the issue very well. I think I know the issue better than most and we will get that taken care of.”
This isn’t new for Trump, though: When he was still in office, Trump pledged to sign a national abortion ban that could have thrown doctors in jail.
The Hill: “The Trump administration formally backed a House bill Monday that would ban abortions after 20 weeks. … It would make it a crime to perform or attempt an abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy, with the possibility of a fine, up to five years in prison or both.”
Trump’s yearslong anti-abortion crusade doesn’t end there — he’s called for punishments for women who have an abortion.
Donald Trump: “There has to be some form of punishment [for women who have an abortion].”
It’s all a part of Trump’s plan to double down on his “unmatched” record of anti-abortion extremism.
CNN: “‘There has been no bigger advocate for the [pro-life] movement than President Trump,’ said Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung in a statement to CNN.”
