Trump and Vance Blow Past Deadline to End War with Iran

Just this morning, Trump said he is “not in a hurry” to end the war and on Friday he said he would “never apologize” for higher prices from the war

Today marks the 60-day deadline for the Memorandum of Understanding between the U.S. and Iran to end the war. Donald Trump and his chief dealmaker JD Vance have failed to reach an agreement to end their deadly and costly war with Iran, and since the war started, 18 U.S. service members have died, more than 600 have been wounded, and prices back home are still soaring on everything from gas to groceries.

In response, DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:

“Donald Trump and JD Vance dragged the U.S. into a deadly and costly war with Iran after promising no more endless wars. In the 170 days since Trump started his war, Americans have been footing the bill and paying more for gas and groceries, pinching pennies just to get by. Trump and Vance have made it abundantly clear they have no idea how to get out of the war they started, nor does it seem like they care. As working families beg for relief, Trump says he’s ‘not in a hurry’ to end the war and that he’ll ‘never apologize’ for making it nearly impossible for them to make ends meet. Americans deserve better.”

Trump and Vance’s war with Iran has already cost American taxpayers $100 billion – four times the original $25 billion estimate – and cost consumers nearly $150 billion, about $1,100 per household since the war started. Americans have spent $60 billion more on gas since the beginning of the war– $504 per household— with today’s national average at $4.06 per gallon. On top of that, the economy lost 23,000 jobs in July, and over the last three months, the economy has created about 200,000 fewer jobs than expected.

It’s no wonder most U.S. voters say they are worse off under Trump and 55% of registered voters disapprove of the job Trump is doing as president. The cost of living remains the top issue for voters across the board — including a majority of Trump voters – and 7 in 10 Americans disapprove of Trump’s economy.
