FAITH COMMUNITY

Democrats know that our nation, our communities, and our lives are made vastly stronger and richer by faith in many forms and the countless acts of justice, mercy, and tolerance it inspires.”

The Democratic Party embraces people of all faiths. Accordingly, we are motivated to unite faith communities based on our common values. The Democratic Party is a place where we can stand together and fight to overcome the forces of division that seek to pit religious groups against each other. We work to foster relationships with our non-profit allies and faith leaders across the country to improve our beloved communities. We stand for an open and respectful interfaith dialogue because we believe it can lead to greater tolerance and acceptance.

Faith communities have a natural home in the Democratic Party. Our party is committed to tolerance, promoting social justice, and improving the well-being of others — all values consistent with the teachings of various faith communities. Between efforts to protect our environment, respond to the opioid crisis, curtail gun violence, eliminate sexual harassment, and combat poverty, faith can be a powerful bond that compels us to serve our community and unite around a common purpose. The Democratic Party is committed to being a vehicle for individuals of all different faiths to seek policy changes that are consistent with our shared values.

Democrats will always uphold the Constitution — which protects the right of all Americans to worship how they choose, and also protects us from the state imposing any one religion on Americans. Furthermore, we firmly believe that religion should not be used as a license to discriminate. And Democrats believe that opportunity and the American Dream should be available to each and every person, regardless of their faith, and will continue to fight to make that a reality.
