RE: Americans Can’t Afford Four More Years of Trump’s Failed Leadership

For the past four years, Trump’s failed leadership has plunged the country into crisis after crisis, with Americans paying the price with their lives and livelihoods.

Four years ago, Trump promised “prosperity” and “winning.” Instead, under his failed leadership, the United States is experiencing the worst coronavirus outbreak in the world, he will be the first president to lose jobs during his term, millions are unemployed and millions more are living in fear of their health care being ripped away. And as Trump made his closing argument to the American people last night, he suggested that he plans to fire Dr. Fauci, one of the country’s most trusted medical experts, after the election as the pandemic gets worse.

It didn’t have to be this bad, but even before the pandemic hit, Trump had started a failed trade war and handed out tax cuts for the rich and big corporations while hanging working Americans out to dry.

The American people are suffering, and they know they can’t afford four more years of Trump’s failure to lead.

Trump’s failed coronavirus response resulted in the U.S. leading the world in cases and death toll.

  • More than 230,000 people have lost their lives and over 9 million have been infected as cases continue to surge across the country.
  • Trump’s failure to respond to the virus has decimated the U.S. economy, with over 400,000 small businesses closing permanently and millions out of a job.
  • Instead of listening to the experts and coming up with a plan, Trump has continued to downplay the threat of the virus to the American people while his White House essentially admitted that they have given up on trying to contain its spread.
  • Trump put his own political ambitions ahead of the health of the American people by privately acknowledging the threat of the virus while publicly downplaying it.

The U.S. economy has lost 3.9 million jobs since Trump took office, the worst track record for the first 44 months of a presidency since WWII. And before the pandemic, Trump’s failed trade war and tax breaks for the wealthy weakened our economy.

  • Trump didn’t keep his promise to bring back manufacturing jobs. Instead, his policies contributed to a manufacturing recession.

Millions have lost access to health care under Trump, and he’s never stopped trying to strip coverage from 20 million more and take away protections from up to 133 million Americans with preexisting conditions.

  • Trump is fighting in court to overturn the Affordable Care Act, which would kick over 20 million people off their health care and eliminate preexisting condition protections for as many as 133 million Americans — all during a pandemic.
  • Trump even recently admitted that he thinks it would be “good” if the Supreme Court eliminates the Affordable Care Act.
  • Trump has spent years making false promises to present a health care plan that never materialized.
  • During Trump’s presidency, millions of Americans became uninsured, and millions more have lost their insurance during the pandemic.

Trump made Americans less safe by alienating our allies and escalating tensions around the globe.

  • Trump has alienated our allies, and has undermined our institutions and torn up international agreements while putting nothing in their place.
  • ISIS is resurgent inside Syria and attacks have surged in Africa, despite Trump’s claims that he defeated “100 percent” of the caliphate, and ISIS now has a greater ability to mount terrorist attacks against the West as a result of Trump’s decision to hastily withdraw American troops from Syria.
  • America’s global standing has plummeted under Trump.
  • Trump jeopardized national security in service of his personal interests and to grant favors to authoritarian leaders.

Trump has spent the past four years dividing our country and inciting violence. Hate crimes are up and hate groups are emboldened.

  • Trump blamed “both sides” for violence in Charlottesville and repeatedly failed to condemn white supremacists.
  • Trump has insulted our service members and called them “losers” and “suckers.”
