DNC Statement Ahead of Moms for Liberty National Summit

Ahead of 2024 Republicans flocking to their latest cattle call at the Moms For Liberty National Summit in Philadelphia, DNC spokesperson Ammar Moussa released the following statement:

“Donald Trump, Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley and Vivek Ramaswamy are celebrating the Fourth of July weekend with one of the nation’s most notorious anti-freedom, history-erasing, book-banning groups. While President Biden and Vice President Harris are running to safeguard Americans’ rights and freedoms, MAGA Republicans are more concerned with catering to right-wing extremists than addressing the real issues that working families face.”

Moms for Liberty is an extremist group leading the charge on banning books in schools around the country.

NPR: “More than two years into a conservative push against teaching about Black history, literature and gender identity in public schools, the Southern Poverty Law Center has concluded that a dozen so-called ‘parental rights’ groups behind the movement are extremist. The civil rights organization particularly focuses on the largest of these, the nonprofit Moms for Liberty, in its annual Year in Hate & Extremism report for 2022, saying that it advances an anti-student inclusion agenda.”

Media Matters: “With over 200 chapters, Moms for Liberty has become the largest driver of the nationwide book banning crusade, which has led to harassment and threats against public school teachers, librarians, and education officials.”

Philadelphia Inquirer: “The national group has led culture-war crusades against school boards, pushing to ban books it deems pornographic from libraries and accusing teachers of seeking to indoctrinate students.”

Moms for Liberty  2024 GOP: The Republican presidential field has embraced Moms for Liberty’s extreme, anti-freedom agenda – campaigning with them, speaking and receiving awards at their events, and even listening to feedback on their policy platforms.

Wall Street Journal: “[Moms for Liberty] pushed Donald Trump to embrace their issues more than he did in 2016 and 2020, and his campaign platform reads like it is from the group’s website, including a pledge to cut federal funding from any school pushing so-called critical race theory and what he deems other inappropriate sexual and political content.”

Tampa Bay Times: “[Moms for Liberty co-founder Tina] Descovich said she was thrilled with the turnout from across the nation for the group’s first major event, which featured DeSantis as its introductory keynote speaker.”

“When DeSantis took the stage, the group presented him with a ‘liberty sword’ modeled after the type given to gladiators. The event has adopted the phrase ‘joyful warriors’ to describe its members.”

Haley: “If @Moms4Liberty is a ‘hate group,’ add me to the list.”

Fox News: “Ramaswamy joins Moms for Liberty after SPLC labeled parental rights org ‘extremist’: ‘My favorite hate group’”
