Ronna McDaniel Says the Quiet Part Out Loud: The GOP Impeachment Sham Is All About Politics
September 12, 2023
MAGA Republicans aren’t even pretending that their impeachment sham is serious: This morning, RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel admitted their impeachment sham is about politics and getting revenge on Democrats.
When asked about Kevin McCarthy’s plans to endorse an impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden, Ronna McDaniel brazenly admitted that it will help Republicans politically and that their stunts are about vengeance.
McDaniel: “I think [Kevin McCarthy] is right on. … Our voters are sick and tired of Republicans getting attacked all the time through the courts or whatever and it’s time to go after Biden.”
House Republicans are exacting political revenge after Donald Trump told them to do so.
Melanie Zanona, CNN: “Meanwhile.. Trump’s patience with Republicans is starting to wear thin: Yesterday, he complained on Truth Social that the House GOP isn’t moving fast enough on a Biden impeachment.
‘Either IMPEACH the BUM, or fade into OBLIVION,’ he wrote.”
Associated Press: “It’s a political escalation, urged on by Trump, after his own two impeachments. … Now, as the Republican party’s frontrunner for the nomination to take on Biden in 2024, Trump has long seethed over his impeachments at the hands of House Democrats. McCarthy has suggested the Trump impeachments could be expunged, as proposed by Stefanik and Greene. But Trump wants Biden to face similar impeachment charges.”
Speaker-in-name-only Kevin McCarthy is following Trump’s orders and even fundraising off this political stunt.
McCarthy: “Today, I am directing our House committee to open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.”
Sahil Kapur, NBC News: “Speaker McCarthy floats an ‘impeachment inquiry’ into President Biden in a text message to supporters, mentioning unproven allegations and adding a link to give money to his political operation.”
Other candidates in the 2024 Republican field have lined up behind Trump in supporting an impeachment inquiry into baseless claims.
Associated Press: “Donald Trump wants to see President Joe Biden impeached, and the former president’s allies in Congress and his 2024 GOP presidential rivals are eager to join that fight as his own legal challenges mount. Trump’s chief opponent, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, this week said the House Republicans ‘are absolutely within their rights’ to consider an impeachment inquiry against Biden. Former U.N. ambassador Nikki Haley, also running for president, said Republicans would be ‘justified to do it.’”
McCarthy’s baseless impeachment crusade against President Biden is such a waste of time and energy that even House Republicans are calling it out.
CNN: “GOP Colorado Rep. Ken Buck, a member of the hardline Freedom Caucus who sits on the House Judiciary Committee, has previously accused McCarthy of engaging in ‘impeachment theater.’
“And one GOP lawmaker, granted anonymity to speak more freely, offered an even blunter assessment: ‘There’s no evidence that Joe Biden got money, or that Joe Biden, you know, agreed to do something so that Hunter could get money. There’s just no evidence of that. And they can’t impeach without that evidence. And I don’t I don’t think the evidence exists.’”
The Hill: “Other GOP lawmakers, however, say they are not ready to take the plunge.
“‘I think before we move on to [an] impeachment inquiry, we should … there should be a direct link to the president in some evidence,’ Rep. Don Bacon (R-Neb.) told The Hill in an interview. ‘We should have some clear evidence of a high crime or misdemeanor, not just assuming there may be one. I think we need to have more concrete evidence to go down that path.’”
