Ramaswamy to Double Down on Defunding Law Enforcement, Department of Education

Vivek Ramaswamy is rolling out his official plans to defund federal law enforcement and the Department of Education. Ramaswamy’s not the only MAGA Republican running for president who wants to gut support for federal law enforcement and public education as the GOP hopefuls continue racing to be the most extreme candidate in the field.

Ramaswamy is doubling down on his extreme “America First 2.0” agenda that includes defunding federal law enforcement and shutting down the Department of Education.

NBC News: “Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy is laying out plans to shut down a number of federal government agencies if elected, starting with the FBI, Department of Education and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.”

Ramaswamy: “I think the FBI as an institution should not exist.”

Washington Post: “Billed as ‘America First 2.0,’ an argument that Trump did not go far enough in passing his policy agenda as president, Ramaswamy’s platform — which leans heavily on executive actions — includes raising the voting age to 25 unless certain requirements are met, ending affirmative action ‘in every sphere of American life,’ shutting down the FBI and trimming 75 percent of executive branch employees to reduce the size of the ‘administrative state.’”

Ramaswamy isn’t alone in proposing to defund federal law enforcement — Trump and Ron DeSantis are leading the 2024 GOP pack in embracing this MAGA position.

NBC News: “Former President Donald Trump is egging on Republicans in Congress to ‘defund’ federal law enforcement ahead of a government funding deadline this fall.

“‘Republicans in Congress should defund the DOJ and FBI until they come to their senses,’ he posted on his social media platform, writing in all-caps. ‘The Democrats have totally weaponized law enforcement in our country and are viciously using this abuse of power to interfere with our already under siege elections!’”

Jonathan Allen, NBC News: “When Trump was president, he proposed slashing federal funding for local police forces.”

DeSantis: “They’re never using that number one constitutional power they have — the power of the purse — to rein in these administrative agencies. And so you have something like DOJ and FBI — well, if you never hold them accountable through the legislative process, either through law or through budget, of course power is going to accumulate there.”

Ramaswamy’s bizarre plan should come as no surprise — he is openly running to take Trump’s extreme MAGA agenda even further.

NBC News: “Biotech entrepreneur and conservative commentator Vivek Ramaswamy is vowing to take Donald Trump’s agenda ‘even further’ as he takes on the former president for the 2024 GOP nomination.”

Axios: “Vivek Ramaswamy — the little-known biotech multimillionaire who jumped into the ’24 GOP presidential race — is auditioning to be the party’s next Donald Trump, with hyper-Trumpian positions on the border, voting, culture wars and more.”

Washington Post: “Vivek Ramaswamy runs as Trump 2.0”
