Across the States, Trump’s Allies Continue to Undermine Our Democratic Process, Including Threatening “Civil War”

During JD Vances’ hometown rally last week, State Senator George Lang said that if Republicans lose in November, “it’s going to take a civil war to save the country.” Far from an isolated comment, Donald Trump and his right-wing allies continuously threaten American democracy in the states.

Lang isn’t the only one.

In response to yet another Trump ally invoking violence and threatening a “civil war,” DNC Deputy Communications Director Abhi Rahman released the following statement:

“The right to have your vote count and your voice heard in free and fair elections is at the heart of our democracy, but Donald Trump and his allies are deliberately working to undermine that right. Donald Trump and his far-right allies are doing and saying anything they can to gain power. As in 2020, Trump has refused to commit to accepting the results of the 2024 election and is already planting lies about this election. Let’s be clear: American democracy is strong, and voters will have their voices heard. Trump and JD Vance stand at odds with our most cherished American values. Voters will make that clear when they reject Donald Trump and his extreme agenda again.”

Across the battlegrounds, Donald Trump and his allies have repeatedly spewed anti-democratic and violent rhetoric.
