DNC Statement on the 23rd Anniversary of the 9/11 Attacks
September 11, 2024
DNC Chair Jaime Harrison released the following statement on the 23rd anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001:
“Twenty-three years ago, the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 took nearly 3,000 innocent lives and altered the course of history. The devastation is still seared in our memories and left our nation forever changed. On this solemn day, we remember the lives lost, honor the friends and families still dealing with unimaginable grief, and pay tribute to the heroes on Flight 93, at Ground Zero, and at the Pentagon. Their courage, selflessness, and empathy for strangers continue to serve as reminders of the unwavering American spirit and our boundless love for our countrymen and our nation.
“In the face of this attack, Americans nationwide and around the world banded together, exemplifying a shared humanity that still resonates and inspires us today. Though our hearts were broken, we have emerged from tragedy stronger and with a hardened resolve. Attacks against our values, our freedom, and our great nation will never deter us from living out our American Dream. Twenty-three years later, I still see a nation that believes in democracy. I still see a nation whose heart beats for freedom. And I still see a nation that loves its neighbors.
“As we honor the legacies of those lost on September 11, we must promise to remember the full lives they lived, the joy they brought to those they loved, and the bravery they displayed when met with evil. We mourned them then, we mourn them twenty-three years later, and we promise to never forget.”
