Trump’s Approval Ratings Plummet As His Unpopular Agenda Jacks Up Costs
March 4, 2025

While Donald Trump kisses up to his billionaire backers at his joint address to Congress, prices continue to rise and his approval ratings continue to sink. Trump is failing to live up to his campaign promises to bring down costs and put working families first — and the American people are taking notice.
Trump’s favorability is already underwater as voters give him the worst approval rating for any president in modern history at this point in his term – except for himself during his first term.
Morning Consult: “For the first time this year, Trump’s favorability rating has fallen underwater”
Gallup: “President Donald Trump’s initial job approval rating for his second term is similar to the inaugural 45% reading during his first term, again placing him below all other elected presidents dating back to 1953.”
Navigator Research: “Americans think Donald Trump wants what is best for himself (53 percent) rather than what is best for the country (47 percent).”
Harry Enten, CNN: “4 polls show [Trump’s] net approval rating underwater … His one time strength (the economy) is now a weakness.”
A majority of Americans think that under Trump, the country — including the economy, employment and jobs, and cost of living — is on the wrong track:
- 53% of Americans believe the economy is off on the wrong track
- 64% of Americans also believe their cost of living is on the wrong track
- A majority also say corruption is on the wrong track under Trump’s billionaire Cabinet
- Over 80% of respondents said they believe tariffs will lead to increased prices, with 45% expecting significant hikes
- Across the board, American consumer confidence falls while economic policy uncertainty rises to the highest level since the Great Recession
