TX Rep. Collier Threatened With a Felony for Joining Press Call From Bathroom
Today, DNC Chair Ken Martin, California Governor Gavin Newsom, US Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ), and Texas State Representative Nicole Collier (D-TX) held a press call highlighting the importance of Prop 50: the Election Rigging Response Act, giving Democrats a chance to counteract Republicans’ brazen power grab in Texas and level the playing field to ensure the voters — not Donald Trump — decide their elected officials.
During the call, Rep. Collier — who has been firmly standing her ground on the Texas House floor in protest of Republicans’ attempt to force her to accept the constant surveillance of a police escort — was kicked off the call and threatened with a felony.

Democrats are fighting tooth and nail against Donald Trump and his Republican lapdogs’ scheme to rig our elections for political gain. In Texas, Democrats like State Rep. Nicole Collier are still fighting, standing together to bring a unified Democratic response to Trump’s attempts to rig the maps.
Find highlights from the call below:
“There’s no permission when it comes to protesting corrupt cowards, when you stand against abuses of power in this country, in this case, Donald Trump’s rig maps that disenfranchise black and brown voters. You do it because it’s the right thing to do. There’s no better reason. Governor Newsom didn’t care whether folks would clutch their pearls when he decided to fight fire with fire and level the playing field against this craven, power-hungry White House,” said DNC Chair Ken Martin. “Democrats aren’t going to roll over while Republicans break the rules and try to rig the game. Voters deserve fair maps. And while Texas Democrats lit the spark that has set off this national movement, now, Democrats all over the country are picking up the torch. Every California Democratic legislator should be voting to put this directly to the people of California, and every Californian should be gearing up to fight for our democracy at the ballot box this November.”
“This is not about parties. It’s not about, you know, redistricting lines. It’s about holding the line. It’s about protecting all of us, regardless of political party. It’s about power at the end of the day. He tried to light democracy on fire… On January 6, he tried to wreck this country. What more evidence do we need? He now says he’s entitled, he used that word, ‘entitled,’ to five new seats,” said California Governor Gavin Newsom. “The rule of Don versus the rule of law. It has never been more clear, vivid, what’s at stake…We are putting a stake in the ground at peril of being judged not to have lived at this moment. This is profound as it is precious, and we are going to fight back, and we’re going to punch this bully in the mouth, and we’re going to win.”
“We believe in a just and fair game. Democrats have supported in Congress over and over again federal laws to ensure nonpartisan gerrymandering, but if Donald Trump is going to enter this basketball game and foul over and over again, then we’re going to fight fire with fire,” said New Jersey Senator Cory Booker. “This is not just a California fight. What Californians decide to do in the coming weeks and months will determine which way our nation goes. Will we go to the low road, back to the quicksand that seem to swallow up our democratic ideals, or will we be like my grandparents generation and my parents’ generation, the civil rights generation that decided in those dark days to be the light and to help guide this nation forward — to not just justice for African Americans, but really justice for all.”
“I became a Texas representative because the people of Texas deserve a fighter. They’ve asked me to be their voice in Austin, and I’ve earned their trust over these six legislative sessions to come back and to fight for them. My will to do that has not only strengthened, and I don’t take my oath lightly. I’ll be damned if I’m going to let some Republican use these petty intimidation tactics to silence the voice of my voters. They sent me here to fight, and that’s exactly what I’m going to do,” said Texas State Representative Nicole Collier. “We need all soldiers on deck, and so I’m not deterred by these intimidation tactics, but I am inspired by Governor Newsom and all the other governors like Governor Pritzker and Hochul who have made their commitment to support the efforts to do tit for tat. We’re ready to meet Trump where he is, which is on a dirt road, and we’re ready to get down and dirty. And I want to thank Governor Newsom for being the lead on that and answering the call.”
