With less than 50 days until the midterm elections, this National Voter Registration Day of Action builds on the DNC’s unprecedented voter registration program that continues to reach, register, and turnout young Democrats throughout America.
Democrats are marking National Voter Registration Day by launching a push to reach, organize, and turnout young voters in every part of the country. This includes hosting voter registration drives, community events, block walks, and phone banks to help people check their voter registration status, add new Democratic voters to the rolls, and increase Democratic turnout. With less than 50 days until the midterm elections, this National Voter Registration Day of Action builds on the DNC’s unprecedented voter registration program that will help Democrats hold Republicans accountable, flip control of Congress, and win races up and down the ballot.
In response to Democrats launching a National Voter Registration Day of Action, Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:
“With less than 50 days until the midterm elections, Democrats are doubling down on our proven work to reach and register the new voters who will help us win races up and down the ballot. Thanks to our early and consistent investments in voter registration, we are spending National Voter Registration Day expanding our efforts to add Democrats to the rolls — from college campuses and community meetings to places of worship and outside grocery stores. While Republicans’ rising costs, reckless tariffs, unpopular war, and cruel cuts to healthcare repel voters, Democrats are on the ground meeting, registering, and organizing new voters in communities throughout America.”
This National Voter Registration Day of Action is a continuation of the DNC’s investments to add new Democrats to the rolls. Last week, the DNC hosted national trainings where thousands of people learned how to conduct partisan voter registration in their communities. This included a specific training geared towards young people. The DNC also recently published its Playbook Addendum, an innovative guide for state parties and coordinated campaigns that offers tools and resources for conducting effective voter registration programs.
Last month, the DNC expanded its voter registration program by deploying dozens of When We Count fellows to Nevada to conduct on-the-ground voter registration drives at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas — one of the most diverse colleges in the country — in addition to registering voters at community meetings and outside of sporting events, concerts, stores, and festivals.
The DNC’s When We Count program is the largest-ever campaign to register and mobilize the next generation of Democratic voters. It works by training and deploying paid fellows to conduct on-the-ground partisan voter registration. A third of When We Count’s fellows are native Spanish speakers and a third do not have a college degree, allowing them to use their personal experiences and relationships to reach young Democrats beyond college campuses. In addition to registering thousands of voters, When We Count fellows also stay in touch with these young Democrats to provide continued support and ensure they can make their voices heard.
In July, Democrats also launched an innovative World Cup Weekend of Action to register new voters outside FIFA Fan Zones and at community watch parties, sports bars, parks, and other high-traffic locations. This effort included trainings that equipped more than 1,500 Democrats with the best practices to run partisan voter registration drives. Additionally, in June, When We Count fellows registered shift workers and gig workers outside of grocery stores, laundromats, thrift stores, gas stations, transit stops, dollar stores, and check-cashing areas as part of the DNC’s Stuff Costs Too Much Weekend of Action.
