In recognition of Native American Heritage Month, DNC Chair Ken Martin and DNC Native Caucus Chair Clara Pratte released the following statement:
“This Native American Heritage Month, we honor the beautiful mosaic of cultures, histories, and languages that embody the Native American experience. We acknowledge the strength that Indigenous peoples have demonstrated throughout history, as well as their steadfast work to keep traditions alive. This month, and every month, we commit to elevating Native voices, protecting tribal sovereignty, and defending their autonomy.
“Over the past twenty months, the Trump-Vance administration has pursued policies that undermine tribal sovereignty and drain resources from programs that help Indigenous communities access healthcare, housing, job opportunities, and so much more. In their quest to line the pockets of their billionaire friends, this administration has put sacred lands at risk, and they have gone so far as to question the citizenship of Native Americans themselves.
“On Tuesday, the American people are going to have an opportunity to elect trailblazing champions to public office across the country — including Deb Haaland as the Governor of New Mexico, Mary Peltola as Senator for Alaska, and Peggy Flanagan as Senator for Minnesota. We know our jobs are not finished once Election Day is over, and we will never back down from this fight for civil rights, economic equity, and the dignified lives that Native peoples deserve.”
