DNC on Trans Day of Visibility

DNC Chair Jaime Harrison and DNC LGBTQ Caucus Chair Earl Fowlkes issued the following joint statement on Trans Day of Visibility:

“Every American deserves to be treated with dignity and respect — that includes trans and nonbinary Americans. Today, we celebrate the the countless ways trans and non-binary Americans have and continue to make our nation great. From the arts to activism, our armed forces to the highest levels of government, trans and non-binary people have played an essential role in making our nation better and pushing it closer towards progress.

Republicans across the country continue to use their power in state and local government to target trans children and make life more difficult for these vulnerable kids and their families. Last year alone, we saw more than 100 anti-trans bills introduced across the country — many of them targeting kids.

We need more justice — not less. We need more inclusion — not less. On day one of his administration, President Biden signed one of the most comprehensive executive orders on LGBTQ rights in history. It ensures that across the board — from health care to fair housing to civil rights enforcement — protecting people from discrimination on the basis of gender identity and sexual orientation is a priority for this administration.

On this Trans Day of Visibility, the Democratic Party reaffirms its commitment to trans and nonbinary Americans. We will continue working hard to address the everyday needs of trans and nonbinary Americans across the country.”
