FACT CHECK On McCarthy’s So-Called “Plan” for America

House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy just dropped Republicans’ so-called “Commitment to America” plan — and in typical McCarthy fashion, he’s flat-out lying about the GOP’s failed agenda. But make no mistake: Republicans offer no solutions and are totally un-committed to delivering for the American people. 

CLAIM: Kevin McCarthy claims that Republicans will “fix the economy.”

FACT: Every single Republican in Congress voted against legislation to fight inflation and lower prescription drug costs for millions of Americans.

Bloomberg: “Republicans successfully stripped a proposed $35 per month cap on out-of-pocket spending on insulin for patients enrolled in private insurance from the [Inflation Reduction Act].”

CNBC: “Medicare is poised to renegotiate the prices of some of its most expensive drugs through a historic expansion of its power, which could reduce costs for many seniors as well as federal spending on its prescription drug plan.”

CLAIM: Kevin McCarthy claims that Republicans will “lower prices at the pump.”

FACT: Every single House Republican voted against legislation to crack down on gas price gouging.

CBS News: “The House of Representatives passed a bill along party lines Thursday that seeks to lower gas prices by cracking down on alleged price gouging by energy companies… The House vote was 217-207: no Republican supported the bill.”

CLAIM: Kevin McCarthy claims that Republicans will “end our dependence on China.”

FACT: 187 House Republicans sided with the Chinese Communist Party and voted against bringing American manufacturing jobs back home.

CLAIM: Kevin McCarthy claims that Republicans will “reduce crime.”

FACT: Every single Republican in Congress attempted to block the American Rescue Plan, which has provided much-needed funding to local police forces.

NBC News: “House Republicans who opposed Covid aid still see funds flow to local police departments”

As the GOP leader himself always says: Americans face a clear choice — Republicans will be held accountable for their disastrous record come November.
