Trump Heads to RNC Retreat as Poll Numbers Hit Record Lows
April 24, 2026

Americans overwhelmingly disapprove of Trump and Republicans’ agenda heading into the midterms
Donald Trump will speak today at the Republican National Committee’s spring retreat as his poll numbers hit record lows. Heading into the midterms, the American people strongly disapprove of Trump’s second term as his reckless policies drive the economy into the ground and he forces Americans to foot the bill for his unpopular war of choice with Iran.
Americans overwhelmingly disapprove of Trump’s handling of the issues that are most important to them. A CNBC poll found Trump’s net approval rating dropped 10 points to -18, the lowest ever measured across both of his terms. A new Fox News poll found that nearly 75% of Americans rate the economy poorly and Americans trust Democrats more than Republicans on the economy for the first time since 2010.
Reminder: RNC Chair Joe Gruters has said on multiple occasions that Republicans are headed for disaster in November. In December, Gruters said there is “a pending, looming disaster heading our way” and “the chances are Republicans will go down and will go down hard.”
In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:
“Donald Trump tanked the economy and now Republicans are in for a rude awakening in the midterms. Working families are being forced to make impossible decisions about whether to pay for groceries, go to the doctor, or take on more credit card debt, while they foot the bill for Trump’s massive tax cuts for billionaires and his unpopular war. Good luck selling Americans on your ‘Trump-a-Palooza’ this November — Democrats will continue to work to bring down costs and make life more affordable for everyday Americans.”
