Today, as his deadly and costly war with Iran rages on and the national average price for a gallon of gasoline currently stands at $4.48, Donald Trump hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of his new helipad. Trump has spent his presidency focused on building vanity projects, including his helipad, a $600 million ballroom, and his “Arc-de-Trump.” Recent reporting revealed that Trump plans to spend at least $900 million on White House construction projects, the majority of which will be covered by taxpayers.
Gas prices are up by nearly 50% since Trump started his war with Iran, while diesel is at a record-high $6.51 per gallon. Americans have spent an additional $107 BILLION on gas and diesel since the war began, and analysts say gas prices could spike even higher.
REMINDER: Last week, Trump claimed that higher gas prices caused by his war with Iran are “a very inexpensive price to pay.”
In response, DNC Deputy Communications Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:
“Donald Trump is turning a blind eye to working families struggling to make ends meet in his economy as his tariffs and war with Iran continue to push prices even higher. Everyday Americans are stretching their budgets thin just to fill up at the pump or check out at the grocery store, and Trump doesn’t care. Instead, he’s focused on his endless vanity projects and auctioning off the White House to the highest bidder. Americans don’t want a helipad or a gilded ballroom: They want lower prices and better healthcare.”
Everyday Americans are being squeezed by high prices:
- In Arizona: “I cut out my Netflix and HBO Max to offset the price for filling up a tank of gas.”
- In Texas: “Everything’s going up. Gas is going up, groceries, everything.”
- In Kansas: “In rural Kansas, where most things are coming in on a truck, prices of goods are gonna go up, whether it’s food, clothing. All of those things are affected because all of those things are coming in on a truck that runs on diesel.”
