As part of the DNC’s historic voter registration effort, dozens of When We Count fellows will reach, register, and turnout young Democrats throughout Nevada.
Over the weekend, the DNC launched an unprecedented voter registration program in Nevada as it invests in reaching, mobilizing, and turning out young Democrats across the Silver State ahead of the critical midterm elections. As part of the DNC’s historic partisan voter registration effort, dozens of When We Count fellows will conduct on-the-ground voter registration drives at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas — one of the most diverse colleges in the country — in addition to registering voters at community meetings and outside of sporting events, concerts, stores, and festivals.
This targeted investment in registering young Democratic voters, closing the voter registration gap, and increasing turnout comes as Democrats organize to win pivotal races up and down the ballot. This includes flipping the governor’s seat, re-electing Democrats to statewide offices, holding three competitive U.S. House seats, flipping the 2nd Congressional District, and building a supermajority in the state assembly.
In response to the DNC launching a targeted voter registration program in Nevada, Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:
“With just over two months until the midterm elections, Democrats are laser-focused on reaching, registering, and turning out the young voters who will make the difference in races up and down the ballot. With our unprecedented investment in voter registration and organizing across Nevada, dozens of When We Count fellows will be on the ground and out in communities to meet young Democrats where they are, add them to the rolls, and ensure they make their voices heard this November.”
The DNC’s When We Count program is the largest-ever campaign to register and mobilize the next generation of Democratic voters. It works by training and deploying paid fellows to conduct on-the-ground partisan voter registration. A third of When We Count’s fellows are native Spanish speakers and a third do not have a college degree, allowing them to use their personal experiences and relationships to reach young Democrats beyond college campuses. In addition to registering thousands of voters, When We Count fellows also stay in touch with these young Democrats to provide continued support and ensure they have the information to make their voices heard.
The DNC has consistently prioritized voter registration over the last year. Last month, Democrats launched an innovative World Cup Weekend of Action to register new voters outside FIFA Fan Zones and at community watch parties, sports bars, parks, and other high-traffic locations. This effort included trainings that equipped more than 1,500 Democrats with the best practices to run partisan voter registration drives. In June, fellows also registered shift workers and gig workers outside of grocery stores, laundromats, thrift stores, gas stations, transit stops, dollar stores, and check-cashing areas as part of the DNC’s Stuff Costs Too Much Weekend of Action. Additionally, the DNC held a National Voter Registration Week of Action in the spring with more than 100 events.
This announcement is only the DNC’s latest investment in Nevada. Thanks to the State Partnership Program, the Nevada Democratic Party receives $17,500 per month, which has gone towards critical organizing work. Nevada Democrats have also benefited from the DNC’s NextWave Regional Bootcamp, the committee’s largest in-person campaign staff training program in history. Additionally, the DNC continues to help the Nevada Coordinated Campaign and candidates up and down the ballot by providing access to resume banks, trainings, and the DNC’s organizing Playbook.
