Today, Donald Trump will travel to South Carolina — for the second time in less than 10 days — to promote the failed Republican agenda that has made life more expensive for working families. Republicans’ reckless tariffs and deadly and costly war with Iran have hiked prices on everything from gas to groceries, crushing everyday Americans. On top of that, their Big Ugly Bill ripped healthcare away from families and children while shuttering healthcare facilities across the country, including in South Carolina.
Trump’s visit to South Carolina is another desperate attempt to prop up Darline Graham’s failing campaign, after a recent poll found the race effectively tied — in a state Trump won by double digits in 2024. Graham has proven to be woefully unqualified to be South Carolina’s next senator, after she admitted in a debate that she is “not that informed on national security.” Trump defended her by saying, “she was just being honest.”
In response, DNC Deputy Communications Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:
“Donald Trump and JD Vance sent the economy into a tailspin after they waged reckless tariffs and a deadly, costly war with Iran, hiking prices on everything from gas to groceries while healthcare costs soar. Now, with only days to go until the midterms, Trump and Vance are traveling to ruby-red states to prop up their hand-picked candidates, desperately attempting to shore up their base as even their strongest supporters abandon ship. Americans see right through Trump, Vance, and their embarrassing candidates, and in just five days, voters are going to make their voices heard at the ballot box.”
REMINDER: South Carolina families have spent an additional $3,300 for everyday essentials under Trump and Vance, including $310 for groceries and $696 on housing costs. The average price for a gallon of gas in South Carolina is $3.72 and the average price for a gallon of diesel is $5.81. South Carolina families have shelled out an additional $980 on gas alone since Trump and Vance started their war with Iran. On top of that, more than 100,000 South Carolinians have lost healthcare because of Trump and Republicans’ $1 trillion cut to Medicaid and their refusal to renew the enhanced Affordable Care Act premium tax credits.
