DNC Congratulates San Antonio’s New Mayor-Elect, Gina Ortiz Jones, For Clinching Historic Victory
June 7, 2025
Tonight, the DNC congratulates Gina Ortiz Jones on her victory in the San Antonio mayoral race, beating back massive amounts of right-wing dark money. With her win in a heavily-Latino city, Mayor-elect Ortiz Jones will continue the legacy of Mayor Nirenburg and move San Antonio forward. This victory further extends a significant streak of Democratic overperformances and victories in competitive elections in 2025.
The DNC is proud to have helped Mayor-elect Ortiz Jones cross the finish line by deploying over 200 volunteers to reach over 100,000 voters in support of the campaign.
From school boards to city councils to mayoral offices across the state, Texas voters are making their voice heard loud and clear: They want strong Democratic leaders who will fight for them, protect their rights, and build opportunities within their communities. While Republicans alienate working- and middle-class families, Democrats continue to build momentum, win elections, and offer an alternative to Republicans’ disastrous agenda.
In response to Mayor-elect Ortiz Jones’ victory, DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:
“Congratulations to San Antonio Mayor-elect Gina Ortiz Jones for beating back massive amounts of right-wing dark money and winning the San Antonio Mayoral election. Mayor-elect Ortiz Jones will continue to move San Antonio forward — lowering costs, fighting for working families, and ensuring that San Antonians of all stripes have opportunities to succeed. Building off the successful efforts of Mayor Ron Nirenburg’s tenure, the DNC was proud to support Ortiz Jones’ campaign with GOTV efforts to ensure that voters across San Antonio knew the stakes of this race. From coast to coast, from blue to purple to even red states, Democrats are consistently and overwhelmingly outperforming Republicans this year — as voters condemn Republicans’ plot to undermine Social Security and attack health care while hiking prices on working families. Voters are sick of cowardly Republicans willing to bend the knee to Trump’s harmful agenda at their expense. They want true leaders who will govern on behalf of working families and not billionaire donors, which is why Democrats like Gina Ortiz Jones are winning elections up and down the ballot.”
To support Mayor-elect Gina Ortiz Jones’ campaign, the DNC:
- Supported Get Out The Vote efforts, reaching over 100,000 voters through volunteer outreach.
- Deployed over 200 of our volunteers both locally and nationally to support the campaign through phone banks and canvases.
